Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to pay privately if the patient is not present at a consult?

Medicare requires that the patient be present for both in-person and telehealth consultations to qualify for a rebate. If the patient is not available (for example, if an adult child is calling on behalf of a parent, or a parent is attending a consult for a child who is not present), the consultation will not meet Medicare’s eligibility criteria, and private billing will apply. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please speak to our friendly reception team for further clarification before your appointment.

From 1st December, eligible patient can:

  • Start the registration process in your Medicare Online Account or Express Plus Medicare Mobile App. Practice staff will then accept the registration in the MyMedicare system.
  • Your practice may start the registration in MyMedicare or you can ask them to do this. This will trigger a registration in your Medicare Online Account or Express Plus Medicare Mobile App, which you can then complete.
  • Alternatively complete the HotDoc Registration Form via (St Francis Subiaco – MyMedicare Registration Form HotDoc)*  and one of our admin staff will process the registration on your behalf.
  • Fill out a registration form at your practice. By signing the form, you are giving your consent to participate in MyMedicare with that practice. Practice staff will then complete the registration in the MyMedicare system.

Yes, we are happy to see all age groups!

Unfortunately we do not have onsite parking however there are EasyPark ticket street parking along Sheen and Wexford Streets. Alternatively, there are numerous 90 minutes free parking underneath Subi Square Shopping complex which is less than 100 metres walking distance from the medical centre.

  • When you register as a new patient, we don’t automatically gain access to your previous health information. We can sometimes access limited information with your permission through “My Health Record” if you have one.
  • To ensure that we have all the information we need to continue your care safely and seamlessly, you can request a transfer of your records. Please call the clinic and speak with one of our healthcare assistants who will forward the transfer form to you.  We will send the completed form to your previous clinic who will transfer your records for inclusion in your St. Francis Subiaco Clinic file.

To ensure the safety and health of all our patients and staff, we kindly request the following:

COVID-19 Positive Patients:

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, please DO NOT enter the practice. We encourage you to book a telehealth appointment for your consultation. This can be done easily through our online booking system.

Patients with Flu-Like Symptoms:

If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or any other flu-like symptoms, please refrain from entering the practice. We strongly advise you to opt for a telehealth appointment. This service is available to provide you with the necessary medical care while minimising the risk of exposure to others.

How to Book a Telehealth Appointment:

  • Visit our website stfrancismedical.com.au or call 9382 3334.
  • Select the ‘Telehealth Appointment’ option.
  • Choose a suitable time and confirm your booking.

Telehealth Fee and Billing Practices:

Please note we are a private practice, therefore all Telehealth for new patients will be treated as private patients (i.e., there will be out-of-pocket expenses).

We are committed to providing continuous care during these challenging times and appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Thank You for Your Understanding and Cooperation.

  • We have stock of the vaccine for COVID-19.
  • Appointments can be made by calling the clinic or booking online.
  • St Francis Subiaco is a privately billing clinic. This means there may be an out-of-pocket cost for most consultations.
  • Currently we do bulk bill GP Management Plans, Children (aged 12 years and under), DVA and Pension Concession card holders between Monday to Friday.
  • Please note there is no Bulk Billing on Saturday.
  • While we prefer patients to be seen by their GP for repeat prescriptions, because consultation open up opportunity for other discussions related to general health, in limited circumstances* we will allow for a prescription for a single months supply to be issued without an appointment for patients who are known to the practice and with long term scripts.
  • This prescription will attract a fee, which is not eligible for rebate from Medicare. Please see our Fee Structure and Billing Policy.
  • It is an expectation patient will make an appointment to see their GP for subsequent prescriptions following this repeat script request.

*limited circumstances:

  • Patients with chronic conditions that have been stable and well-managed for an extended period (e.g., asthma, diabetes)
  • Patients who have been seen by a GP recently (less than 10 days) and have no changes in their condition or medication
  •
  • Referrals are best done with your GP either via telehealth or face-to-face.
  • Please book an appointment via hotdoc or call us on 9382 3334.
  • There are two main types of care plans – GP Management Plans and GP Mental Health Care Plans.

    • A Mental Health Care Plan helps you and your GP plan a process to help you stay well or to recover from a mental health problem (like depression, anxiety, stress, grief or developmental problems), and allows you access to a rebate for counselling with a psychologist or mental health social worker.
    • A GP Management Plan helps you and your GP set goals for your health if you have any chronic disease (expected to last longer than 6 months).
  • Clinicallabs provides on-site blood tests on Monday to Friday from 8:00am until 1:00pm.
  • You can take your blood test request to any pathology collector outside of these times.
  • We aim to provide timely access to results. Our GP’s will discuss with you the best way to follow up your results at the time your test is ordered.
  • Urgent results will be prioritised by the GP or practice nurse.
  • For non-urgent results, you may be contacted via SMS for a recall appointment.

Appointments are in high-demand - please plan ahead

Due to increasing demand, some of our doctors are booked 2–3 days in advance. To avoid delays in your care:
  • Please book your next appointment at the end of each visit, especially for ongoing health needs.
  • If you require repeat prescriptions (appointment is required), try to schedule ahead — before your medication runs out.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. And thank you for helping us continue to provide timely, quality care.
